COVID-19 Response

The safety of Walton County remains at the forefront of our minds. We've created a COVID-19 Travel Updates page on our website to share the latest information related to accommodations, restaurants, events, and travel safety. This page is updated regularly as new information becomes available.

Monthly TDT Information

Tourist Development Tax collection showed a 53.15% increase in South Walton for September 2020 compared to the previous year. Total collections for September 2020 were $3,794,493.

The Tourist Development Tax, or bed tax, is a 5% tax collected on hotels, condos and other short-term rentals. It is the best way to gauge visitation and demand trends in South Walton. The revenue supports tourism marketing and beach operations including cleaning and maintaining beaches, lifeguards, destination improvements and preservation initiatives.

North Walton TDT Information

Walton County voters north of the Choctawhatchee Bay approved a 2% tax on short-term rentals that will help promote and market North Walton businesses, attractions and events related to tourism. Other portions of the funds may also be used for infrastructure improvements. The referendum, which was voted on as part of the Nov. 3 General Election, was approved by a vote of 11,455 (55.95%) to 9,010 (44.05%).

Collection of the North Walton TDT will begin March 1 and is expected to generate approximately $300,000 in the first year.
