Group Sales: Updates, Missions and Events: 

Part of the sales team's 2020 strategic plan focuses on travel trade shows. As a result, they identified five travel trade shows to attend and two wine events in key markets. Throughout the year, the sales team will attend events in Atlanta, GA; Columbus, OH; Washington DC; Dallas, TX; and Toronto, Canada.

Recent:

Connect Business Travel: Connect Business Travel brings together corporate travel executives with key suppliers for one-on-one appointments. Collinson Media added this new trade show last year and it’s South Walton’s first time attending. As a result, staff held 28 appointments over two days. 

Rendezvous South: Hosted by ConventionSouth Magazine, Rendezvous South is an appointment based trade show for CVB/TDCs in the Southeast. The TDC opened up the trade show as a booth share opportunity and Embassy Suites received the co-op. Over two days, we shared 18 appointments.

 

Upcoming:

Travel and Adventure Shows allow the sales team to showcase all that South Walton has to offer while visiting other markets. Focusing on the destination and the unique experiences available, South Walton stands out among the other sponsors and other brands, creating a more personal connection with potential visitors. 

Wine Women & Shoes is an engaging and exciting fundraising event where community-minded, philanthropic women (and a few good men) gather to sip, shop, savor, and support a worthy cause in a chic, fun, and innovative way. Through engagement with local ambassadors from South Walton potential visitors can learn about the destination from a unique perspective.

Attending these events give staff the opportunity to promote spring, fall, and winter travel to South Walton. 

 

Visitor Center Updates: 

  • Visitor Count: 
    • February 2020: 2,701 visitors, up 11% over February 2019’s total of 2,432
  • Merchandise Sales:
    • February 2020: $10,987 in merchandise, up 39% over February 2019 sales of $7,913



Merchandise Spotlight: Crew neck sweatshirts


From T-shirts and hats to tumblers and sunglasses, the visitor center is the perfect place to pick up a piece of South Walton for friends and family. This month's spotlight item is our signature beach towel.

Our signature beach towel is 100% Terry Velour and showcases each of South Walton's 16 beach neighborhoods screen printed on one side. It measures 35" x 60" and can be purchased for $14.

Beach Ambassadors

The Beach Ambassador Team, led by Laurie Reichenbach, has been officially moved under the direction of Christy Gibson, Visitor Information Manager at the Visit South Walton Visitor Center. This group of hard working Ambassadors are the TDC's first line of greeters as guests step off the boardwalk and onto the sugar-white sand.

This year the Beach Ambassadors will have a new focus and beach presentation. Visitors will find them stationed at all Regional Beach Accesses and two Neighborhood Accesses; Grayton Beach and Walton Dunes. They will be visible to all beach goers with colorful umbrella stations and informational sandwich boards. They will be greeting, educating and beach-keeping throughout each day with the goal of enhancing the beach experience for everyone.

So if guests are curious about where to go eat lunch, the Ospreys flying overhead, sea turtles or where to catch the best sunset, the beach ambassadors are ready to share their recommendations and local expertise. 

Everyone is invited to stop by the beach stations and meet the beach ambassadors. They are here to help!
